Leisure and Tourism

At Witchford, students in Year 10 and 11 may study Leisure and Tourism as an Option at GCSE. Leisure and Tourism is a Vocational Double Award GCSE and is therefore studied for twice the amount of time as a single award subject. It involves studying the important part that leisure and tourism play in today's society. It also considers how the two industries are linked and work together to offer visitors a good service.
Leisure and Tourism is a popular GCSE subject at Witchford. In both Years 10 and 11, students have six periods per 11 day cycle. There are opportunities for field trips and visiting guest speakers throughout the two years of the course. We currently follow the EDEXCEL Specification 2346. It is assessed through three compulsory units that are all equally weighted at 33.3%.
1. Unit 1: Investigating Leisure & Tourism. External test (1 hour 30 mins).
2. Unit 2: Marketing in Leisure & Tourism. Portfolio, internally assessed.
3. Unit 3: Customer Service in Leisure & Tourism. Portfolio, internally assessed.
Students may re-sit the external test. Assessments can take place in either January or June. We use an EDEXCEL textbook to accompany the course, entitled “GCSE Leisure and Tourism for Edexcel”, which is published by Heinemann.
