Project Introduction.

The existing local authority email system for school staff has been in place for nearly 5 years. Though reliability has improved in the last 12 months there have been a number of serious failures to what is now an essential communication tool. In response to those failures and at the request of Headteacher groups, the local authority is providing a replacement Microsoft Exchange-based email system.

Following a successful pilot, the ICT Service is now beginning the process of migrating all school staff and offices to the new system, with the aim of completing this phase of the project by the end of March 2009.

A key aim during the migration process will be to minimise the disruption to essential school working. In order to meet that aim and manage the project effectively the ICT Service is in the process of gathering key information from schools about their existing use of the email system, and scheduling migration appointments.

For more details about how this affects you and your school, please go to the Frequently Asked Questions site, via this link.

On the right you will find information on how well we are progressing with this project.  There are also links to documentation that will assist you in using the new Exchange email system whether setting up Outlook at school or configuring a mobile phone to collect your email or making calendared appointments for other members of staff etc.  We will make available as many as possible based on demand.

There is also a link to the new Exchange email system, use this if you have been migrated.  You will also notice a button on the front page of the Portal, it is a link to the new mail system for those in school whose browsers have the Portal as their homepage.

Regards

The Exchange Project Team.
